The term Al-Mu'awwidhatayn refers to two surah seeking refuge with Allah, namely Al-Falaq and An-Nas.

The following are practice of the surah as did the Prophet Muhammad [PBUH]:
  • Al-Mu'awwidhatayn read at the end of Salat.
As in the following hadith: Narrated 'Uqbah bin' Amir: "The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) ordered me to recite Al-Mu'awwidhatayn at the end of every Salat." [Jami at-Tirmidhi 3150]
  • Al-Mu'awwidhatayn read in Salat Subh.
It was narrated from 'Uqbah bin' Amir that: He asked the Messenger of Allah [PBUH] about Al-Mu'awwidhatayn. 'Uqbah said: "The Messenger of Allah [PBUH] recited them when he led us in Salat Al-Ghadah (As-Subh)." [Sunan an-Nasai 5434]
  • Al-Mu'awwidhatayn practiced before going to sleep.
It was narrated from 'Aishah that: when the Prophet (PBUH) went to bed, he would blow into his hands, recite Al-Mu'awwidhatayn, then wipe his hands over his body. [Sunan Ibn Majah 3875]

  • Al-Mu'awwidhatayn read 3 times at dawn and dusk

''Abdullah bin Khubaib (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said to me, "Recite Surah Al-Ikhlas and Al-Mu'awwidhatayn (Surah  Al-Falaq and Surah An-Nas) three times at dawn and dusk. It will suffice you in all respects."    [Abu Dawud and At-Tirmidhi] [Riyad as-Salihin 1456]
    • Al-Mu'awwidhatayn read during Salat Witr
Abdul-Aziz bin Juraij said: "I asked Aishah about what (recitation) Allah's Messenger would perform Al-Witr with. She said: 'In the first he would recite: Glorify the Name of your Lord the Most High, in the second: Say: O you disbelievers !, and in the third: Say: Allah is One and, Al-Mu'awwidhatayn. " [Jami` at-Tirmidhi 463]
